Saying goodbye. . .again

I feel a bit like a broken record, but my mother's father passed away June 12, just one week after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  His passing was peaceful and sweet.  He was not in terrible pain for long, and I am grateful for that.  So, here is his life, Readers Digest version.
Grandpa was the youngest in his large family.  He was born to Ranching people, but his mother insisted that her children were well educated.  He learned to play the violin at a young age.  Later fiddling was one of his favorite past times, and one of our fondest memories.
He grew up in the mountains of Arizona, but was called to serve an LDS mission in Australia.   He didn't finnish his mission there though, WWII broke out, and he was called to finnish his mission in Canada.  That is where he met grandma (she was serving a mission too).
After his release, he attended Utah State (GO AGGIES!) for awhile, married my grandmother in the Logan Temple and moved back to the family ranch.  He was then called to serve his country in WWII as a medic in the Pacific front (mostly on Iwagima (sp)).  Those years of his life were both sad and so amazing.  He saw the greatest miracles along with the most vile things men could imagine.  Grandpa always focused on the miracles though.
After WWII Grandpa came home to the family ranch.  He worked with cows and other livestock for the rest of his life.  He was also an amazing artist (mostly leather, and wood work).  He loved to be creative, he braided old bailing twine into all kinds of things.  He knew how to do most anything one would consider "handy" and always came up with solutions to the weirdest problems.
Among grandpa's most prized of all possessions was his testimony of the gospel.  He love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.  He had a vast knowledge of Church doctrine and studied the scriptures in depth.  He was a great patriarchal leader in his family for many generations.  He and his wife, Elvira, served thousands of people.  Their true discipleship could be seen not in their vast knowledge or great speeches, but in the multitudes they cared for.
He passed about 3 months after his wife.  I am so grateful they will be together again.  I will miss him.
And grandpa, You are loved in return.

Sounds like you knew him well and I am sorry for another loss. I am glad he wasn't without his companion for long, though.

Keep singing until the end of the song

Since my last post we lost 2 more precious babies.  On September 30, 2016 we lost our beautiful baby girl Felicity at 5 months.  Almost a year later, we found out we were expecting agin.  Sadly on Dec.1, 2017 we lost our little boy, Elijah.  I need to write their stories, but the feelings and emotions are still very raw and difficult.  While I hope to share them someday, today is not that day. Today is December 21, just a few more days until Christmas.  I LOVE Christmas.  The lights, smells, delicious food, family and friends, and especially the music.  I love to sing Christmas songs and look forward to it every year.  But this year it was hard to sing the songs I love so much.  This year singing about the miraculous birth brought sadness and even anger.  I have struggled to feel the Christmas Spirit. I imagine it is difficult to experience any loss during the Christmas season.  A holiday that focuses so much on family, fri...

Disneyland and California

Wow, what a fun adventure we had. It was a perfect vacation. Everything was fantastic, and we had a blast. Here is a quick little run down. (the pics are not in order, sorry). Here is the mandatory picture of the kids in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Just a cute picture of K up in a tree house on pirate island (formerly Tom Sawyer's island) One of the biggest highlights of the trip was D being chosen to participate in Jedi training camp. He was so excited he was actually shaking. It was AWESOME. He got to learn some Jedi moves from a Jedi master, and then he got to fight Darth Vader. It was really fun, he is still talking about it. Here we are on one of the Bug's Life rides in California Adventures. The highlight for K was seeing and talking to real princesses. She was nervous at first, but quickly warmed up. She was so cute and sweet, it almost made me cry (the 2 hr. wait in line cured me of any tears). She kept telling us how Belle had a dress "all the...

The joy of family pictures

Why is it so hard to get a good family picture.  I would be happy if everyone just looked at the camera.  Here are our latest pics. This was our best family picture.  As you will see, K did not want to cooperate.     Isn't that fun.  All the crying and the whining, and that was just Kent.   The kids and the dog took some cute pictures.   Kent and I did okay.  Together we were a mess.  By the way, this is the picture I ended up using to represent our family.  It seemed the most fitting.   Someday, (sigh) someday we will have a great family picture.
