6 Quirky things about me

I saw this on my friend Teresa's blog a few weeks ago and I thought it looked like fun.  So, here goes 6 quirky things about me.

1.  I sing all the time.  Not too strange right.  Well, I sing little jingles that I made up all day long.  Everyone and everything in our house has a theme song.  I'm not kidding. We often sing the Kirby song, or the We love dad song, occasionally we even sing the "Pork chops are the only Pork chops" song (from when I was 6) complete with JAZZ HANDS.  All simple little tunes by yours truly.

2.  I rarely make my bed.  I just don't see the point.  My bed is where I snuggle with K and tickle D, and it is just to frustrating to make it over and over.  It might be lazy, but there it is.

3.  I don't read.  Not that I can't or don't really want to... it is just that I am incapable of doing anything else except READ THE BOOK, when I try to read a book.  Reading just makes me a bad mom/wife.  And, I don't find it as relaxing as everyone else seems to.

4.  I am still afraid of the dark, and the Bogey man.  I don't sleep with a night light or anything, but the dark just freaks me out.  I HAVE to turn a light on if I go to the bathroom or check on a kid a night.  Just going outside when it is dark outside gets my heart pumping.

5.  I think that sharks, alligators and the Loch Nest monster live in all bodies of water.  This fear can be traced back to my father.  He always saw pool sharks while we were swimming, and I had no idea that that is what you call people in a pool hall (adjacent to the pool).  I also have an unusual fear of what lies beneath the surface.  Just thinking about it gives me the chills.

6.  I have a super memory for the MOST useless information.  Along with singing, I quote movies and T.V. shows all the time.  It is a habit Kent has too.  Simpson's is the most common, but anything will do.  I remember the most useless details of the most useless things.  It is sad but true.  If only I could use my powers for good.

So, there it is.  I hope all of you will still want to be my friends.  Maybe I will write an awesome theme song for you. . .  maybe I already have.

I too am afraid of the dark and I find it very difficult to do nothing but read.

It’s so funny because we are so alike! Except the whole reading thing, the novelist in me just can’t wrap my brain around that one! ;)

Keep singing until the end of the song

Since my last post we lost 2 more precious babies.  On September 30, 2016 we lost our beautiful baby girl Felicity at 5 months.  Almost a year later, we found out we were expecting agin.  Sadly on Dec.1, 2017 we lost our little boy, Elijah.  I need to write their stories, but the feelings and emotions are still very raw and difficult.  While I hope to share them someday, today is not that day. Today is December 21, just a few more days until Christmas.  I LOVE Christmas.  The lights, smells, delicious food, family and friends, and especially the music.  I love to sing Christmas songs and look forward to it every year.  But this year it was hard to sing the songs I love so much.  This year singing about the miraculous birth brought sadness and even anger.  I have struggled to feel the Christmas Spirit. I imagine it is difficult to experience any loss during the Christmas season.  A holiday that focuses so much on family, fri...

Disneyland and California

Wow, what a fun adventure we had. It was a perfect vacation. Everything was fantastic, and we had a blast. Here is a quick little run down. (the pics are not in order, sorry). Here is the mandatory picture of the kids in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Just a cute picture of K up in a tree house on pirate island (formerly Tom Sawyer's island) One of the biggest highlights of the trip was D being chosen to participate in Jedi training camp. He was so excited he was actually shaking. It was AWESOME. He got to learn some Jedi moves from a Jedi master, and then he got to fight Darth Vader. It was really fun, he is still talking about it. Here we are on one of the Bug's Life rides in California Adventures. The highlight for K was seeing and talking to real princesses. She was nervous at first, but quickly warmed up. She was so cute and sweet, it almost made me cry (the 2 hr. wait in line cured me of any tears). She kept telling us how Belle had a dress "all the...

The joy of family pictures

Why is it so hard to get a good family picture.  I would be happy if everyone just looked at the camera.  Here are our latest pics. This was our best family picture.  As you will see, K did not want to cooperate.     Isn't that fun.  All the crying and the whining, and that was just Kent.   The kids and the dog took some cute pictures.   Kent and I did okay.  Together we were a mess.  By the way, this is the picture I ended up using to represent our family.  It seemed the most fitting.   Someday, (sigh) someday we will have a great family picture.
