My IKEA couch is AWESOME!

Okay, so not EVERYTHING at IKEA is incredible, but the love-seat I got last summer is.  I bought it because it was a little bit smaller than other love-seats (not overstuffed and bulky).  We finished our basement remodel and only had room for a little couch, this one was perfect.

I got the couch, and then you pick the slip cover that goes on it.  I choose the denim couch (denim seems kid friendly in the family room, and it looks great with the bright yellow walls and red curtains).  I have enjoyed it for awhile, but it became SUPER COUCH today.

My little "I do it myself" K helped herself to some yogurt, took it downstairs and smeared it on the couch.   It looked awful.  Smears of purply pink yogurt, crayon, crumbs of all kinds (food is not allowed downstairs, I wonder how it got there), and general filth was all over the couch.

(This is where it gets good) I took the slip cover off, threw it in the washer and dryer, put it back together, and amazingly it looks like new.  I couldn't be happier.  For those of you who think "but I hate slip covers, the bunching and sliding".  These covers are awesome, they are made to fit the couch perfectly, and the couch even has velcro to hold everything down.

So to be a commercial for IKEA.  If you have ever contemplated getting the EKTORP living room furniture, I highly recomend it.  (especially if you have independent kids)

I've heard SO many things about how GREAT Ikea is. Why do I feel like I have to go shopping there now? Oh and by the way, I didn't know about the "no food in the basement" rule when I camped out at your house while you were gone at the cabin. I'm certain the crumbs and crayons are from me. Sorry.

Love, love, love IKEA!! :) Haven't bought a couch, but have a list of bedroom furniture we will slowly buy, piece by piece. I've always wondered about the slip-cover thing and after your testimonial, I'd do it (next time I have room for another couch!) :)

Keep singing until the end of the song

Since my last post we lost 2 more precious babies.  On September 30, 2016 we lost our beautiful baby girl Felicity at 5 months.  Almost a year later, we found out we were expecting agin.  Sadly on Dec.1, 2017 we lost our little boy, Elijah.  I need to write their stories, but the feelings and emotions are still very raw and difficult.  While I hope to share them someday, today is not that day. Today is December 21, just a few more days until Christmas.  I LOVE Christmas.  The lights, smells, delicious food, family and friends, and especially the music.  I love to sing Christmas songs and look forward to it every year.  But this year it was hard to sing the songs I love so much.  This year singing about the miraculous birth brought sadness and even anger.  I have struggled to feel the Christmas Spirit. I imagine it is difficult to experience any loss during the Christmas season.  A holiday that focuses so much on family, fri...

Disneyland and California

Wow, what a fun adventure we had. It was a perfect vacation. Everything was fantastic, and we had a blast. Here is a quick little run down. (the pics are not in order, sorry). Here is the mandatory picture of the kids in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Just a cute picture of K up in a tree house on pirate island (formerly Tom Sawyer's island) One of the biggest highlights of the trip was D being chosen to participate in Jedi training camp. He was so excited he was actually shaking. It was AWESOME. He got to learn some Jedi moves from a Jedi master, and then he got to fight Darth Vader. It was really fun, he is still talking about it. Here we are on one of the Bug's Life rides in California Adventures. The highlight for K was seeing and talking to real princesses. She was nervous at first, but quickly warmed up. She was so cute and sweet, it almost made me cry (the 2 hr. wait in line cured me of any tears). She kept telling us how Belle had a dress "all the...

The joy of family pictures

Why is it so hard to get a good family picture.  I would be happy if everyone just looked at the camera.  Here are our latest pics. This was our best family picture.  As you will see, K did not want to cooperate.     Isn't that fun.  All the crying and the whining, and that was just Kent.   The kids and the dog took some cute pictures.   Kent and I did okay.  Together we were a mess.  By the way, this is the picture I ended up using to represent our family.  It seemed the most fitting.   Someday, (sigh) someday we will have a great family picture.
